Today kicks off World Breastfeeding Week, 2018. As a McKinney family photographer I decided to feature on the blog some beautiful mothers nursing their children. We got together for some intimate photos and these amazing ladies have graciously agreed to share some of their stories with us. We'll be talking about some of the rewards and challenges of breastfeeding, words of wisdom for new moms, and love letters from mom to baby. Here we go!
Today's question of the day is:
What are some of the most rewarding and enjoyable aspects of breastfeeding?
Here's what Emily, Alexandra and Jessica have to say.
Emily (mom of 4) & Caleb (8 Months Old)
"Fed is always best. But knowing I’m wholefully giving my baby some small advantages is a great feeling. Beyond that, the closeness is wonderful. Even the nights when I wish my husband’s nipples weren’t worthless are worth it to see the love and adoration in that baby’s eyes when he sees Mama/Food. I think. Yes. Maybe. Yeah."
Alexandra, first time mom to 17 month old Aurora
"There really is nothing better than being a constant comfort to your child. My babe and I have a connection that is unable to be explained or matched. To take it down another path I will say that one of my favorite things about nursing my child is the newfound respect it has given me for my own mother. I grew up hearing that she nursed me for almost 2 years and it didn't really mean much to me. Recently it has made me realize the depths of her love for me as I have felt that for my own daughter through our breast feeding connection."
Jessica (mom of 4) & Ava (13 months old)
"I mostly cherish the bond that only Ava and I can share through nursing. Breastfeeding is how we immediately reconnect after a long day at work and daycare."

Thank you Emily, Alexandra and Jessica for sharing part of your story with us! It was my honor to photograph each of you, and get to know more about you and your breastfeeding journey.
Stay tuned this week for more Q&A's with the rest of our lovely mama's!
